honeycomb lamp

‘we used denguri paper to create a lantern-like shading effect.
it is a local product of the shikoku region in japan.
the fold-out paper outline can surround any light bulb and socket,
with the stretched folds producing a honeycomb pattern.
when the lamp is folded, the thickness is about 2 cm.
to unfuld it to a lamp shade you need to stick the sides together
with some pins (attached). a light bulb and socket are not included.’

okamoto is a new entrant to the wide field of light design
his projects prove that innovation and style can go hand
in hand with affordability.

the kyouei company has been established as a manufacturer
of car lighting by his father, already 20 years ago in the shizuoka
prefecture in japan. okamoto found himself occupying many roles,
from office employee to salesman to delivery man.

currently, okamoto is hard at work on two new products that will,
like the honeycomb lamp, be paper-based designs.

at the moment he preparing an exhibition of his works next
march at the shizuoka prefectural museum of art.
