turn off the taps
consumers increasingly buy water to drink on the go -
new designs for PET bottled water.
- december 2003 -

---
whether a consumer is shopping in a supermarket or a
health food store, working out in a fitness center,
eating in a restaurant or grabbing some quick refreshment,
he or she will likely be tempted to buy PET bottled water.

---
pick up a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottle
- and examine the container, roll it around in your hands,
check out its profile. how important is the design of the bottle?
stylish bottles featured imagery of snowy mountain springs paint
a compelling picture of natural beauty.

hot designs: new shapes and new sizes!
the mover bottle - a new popular size, 750 ml bottle - and
the family bottles - huge 2,5 or 5 litres bottles -.

---
evian
by ora-ito, 2002.
evian one of the world's premier bottled water brands, is owned by
the france-based danone group. in 2001 the group became the
world's largest producer of bottled waters (in terms of volume),
with a 7.1% increase in sales. as the sports bottle market has
enjoyed huge growth, the PA consulting group developed
the new 750ml bottle with a handy tap.

---
perrier
the new PET bottle presents a bubbly image for the on the go sector,
while retaining recognisable characteristics from the classic perrier
glass bottle. appreciated by all who had seen it for its elegant
appearance and organic form, which is claimed ‘less formal’
and has made carrying a bottle of bubbles ‘cool’.
in two exactly scaled sizes - 50cl and 750cl.

---
ty nant
the new PET bottle, designed by ross lovegrove (1999 - 2002)
is conceptually unique in terms of production delivery and in
form to the water concept, demonstrating advances in blow moulding
techniques. as the bottle has a fluid asymmetrical form,
how could a label be neatly applied to the irregularly contoured surface?
the label panel is added separately to the bottle design and consist of
a small curved surface, oval in shape to match the proposed label,
and sunk into the bottle to a minimum depth.
the bottle has to be presented precisely oriented for labelling
and the mould tool incorporates an orientation feature in the base.
three sizes - 1.5 l, 0.5 l, and 0.33 l.

---
st george
designed by philippe starck in 1998, the bottle emphasises the purity
of the water through the linear bottle's design.
starck has also indicated the origin of the source through the color of
the cork: black as the corsica island's flag.
two sizes - 1.5 l and 2.5 l bottles.

---
volvic
the 5 litre PET ‘fontaine’ water bottle represents a major new
development in the mineral water consumer market.
for the first time, a large but easy to use mineral water pack is
available.
this huge bottle is designed to lay on a kitchen top or in a fridge
in such a way that the tap points down and allows the bottle to be
emptied completely. this means the bottle can be left permanently
ready to dispense. the disadvantages of existing 5 litre packs are
removed at a stroke: the need to keep lifting and pouring from a
heavy container.
the air return press tap was specifically designed for volvic and
is precision-engineered to allow one-handed dispense of the water
without glugging or any drips whatsoever. the tap is self-closing
- which makes the bottle ideal for use by even the youngest child -
and is protected by an overcap. this maintains high standards
of hygiene and safeguards the tap during distribution and storage.

---
ogo
the O-Company’s 33cl bottle of OGO oxygenwater
is the athlete´s favorite tipple.
its bottle, simple and geometric should help to persuade
consumers of the benefits of extra oxygen in an increasingly
polluted environment.
the tantalising round OGO bottle encases a uniquely high concentration
of oxygenated water from the source in europe’s taunus mountains,
with over 200mg of oxygen per litre, which is 35 times that of regular water
- like a capsule rich in 'well-being and vitality'.

---
nasty tap water?
bottled water for healthy living and environmental purity?
(never mind that those PET bottles contribute to the vast mountain
of rubbish produced every year).
