‘waterproof’
the archetype of a table lamp now floats in a swimming pool.
is a ready-made project based on a traditional lampshade
and an emergency light in use on the seaside.
in ‘off’ position, outside of the pool, the lamp has to be placed
upside down (during the day), in the ‘on’ position the lamp
can float on water facing upwards (at night).
the lamp can be recharged after 8 hours of use.
rotation-molded polyethylene.

’top secret’
this lamp is made from acetate that has been passed through
a shreading machine used to destroy confidential documents.
the acetate stripes are held together with a clear nylon net
using the same process as the packaging for oranges.
materials: polyester film, compact fluorescent light 18W
dimensions: 40cm x 40cm x 50cm.

the ‘waterproof’ and ‘top secret’ lights are produced by metalarte
and they are part of its new collection metalab.
launched in september 2004 in barcelona, spain and presented
internationally at the light+building fair in frankfurt, germany.

’playboy’
you can personalize your lamp with your own shirts -
each day - a totally different lampshade.

‘playboy’ was included in the droog design exhibition
hotel droog during the design week in april 2002 in milan, italy.

‘superpatata’
while playing, one controls the intensity of the light, so the light
can be either direct or ambient. ‘superpatata’ can be used as a
lamp but also as a pillow, antistress device, an object to warm
your bed. the ‘superpatatas’ can be easily stacked on top of
each other.

héctor serrano
was born in valencia in 1974.
after graduating from the ESDI CEU of valencia, spain,
he moved to london to study at the royal college of art,
at the MA design products course.
he started a collaboration with the dutch firm droog design
and in the same year, he received the peugeot design award 2000.
he lives and works in london.
