meat, sass & bide by evelyn wong from new zealand
designer's own words:
24 hour architecture presents the opportunity for a dual-use building: meat, sass & bide embodies this by simultaneously housing a butchery and clothes boutique.
on a prime corner site, the main tory and jessie street facades are made up of hollow triangular elements, made up of glacier white Corian. each piece (making up the triangular form) has fibre optic filaments attached, which is in turn connected to an aluminium plate which feeds computer information in the form of images or video feed through the translucent Corian surface.
the triangular elements can be rotated and orientated accordingly, providing a wall constantly in flux in the perspective of the viewer - a collective form inspired by the rotating advertising billboard. it represents the dual function of the building, and transient nature of today's retail industry.
