Explanation of Ideas:
The 400-seat restaurant represented in the attached images is part of the Horizon Serono new headquarters campus currently under construction in Geneva, Switzerland. Already completed and here photographed, the new self service counter uses CNC and back lighting to create a subtle effect of light. The oval tables photographed have also been completed. These have been set with CNC liquid filling to create a dramatic design.
The development of the graphic images resulted from the client’s wish to incorporate elements of nature in the restaurant. From this request a large coloured graphic was developed to backdrop the seating area of the restaurant which incorporates flowers and leaf imagery. These elements were then incorporated into various design aspects of the restaurant.
Leaf cutout in the Self Service Counter: Cutting the Corian using CNC with different width and depth cuts, and lighting it from behind created a delicate and interesting decorated component which has very low maintenance.
Carved leaf/flower incorporated into the dining tables: The design of the table was milled to a depth of 3mm and then liquid filled in a soft grey colour and finished flush to the top. This again will allow for an easily cleaned and maintained surface with interest.
Corian was selected due to its strength as the restaurant will be used 6 days a week for two lunch sittings and functions.
We have attached a computer visualization to help explain the overall restaurant concept of the design.
NOTE: The Restaurant was due to be completed in September, but is delayed and will be completed at the end of October. The final photographs will be completed shortly after this, if required.
