breaking the waves by schulz alex from germany
designer's own words:
"breaking the waves" (concept entry)
why not use corian for sound absorbing surfaces?
it is heavy, can be moulded into nearly every form and is firm.
"breaking the waves" is a wavy formed, microperforated and moulded corian skin, that also has a practical use. it becomes a shelf system. By inserting books transversally into moulds of different size, the books also participate to the sound absorbing effect of the skin.
in addition, the wavy skin offers extra storage for larger items, e.g. plan rolls, which makes it also appropriate for offices (space partitioning).
