designboom and DuPont's international design competition theme: DuPont Corian® for a food & coffee bar results ! ------------------ second prize # 1269 title: wal caf name : doh partnership are daniel liden, risa sano, yasuyuki sakurai + george walker sex : - age : - city : london state : uk --- wal-caf is a mobile café unit serving coffee and churros. we arrived at the final proposal principally by thinking about what sorts of thing were appropriate to the material properties of corian. our driving idea was to make something that made sense of the facts that corian comes in sheets, can be shaped by curving or carving, can be seamlessly joined and combined with other materials, and is low-maintenance. the wal-caf exploits all these features by almost shrink-wrapping the essential machinery of a churros café in a corian skin, providing a facility that can be used outdoors or indoors to set up a temporary vending space. ---    ---  back to the competition results index ---  ------- monthly designboom newsletter ------- ------- ? comments and contact us ? -------  |
