designboom and DuPont's international design competition theme: DuPont Corian® for a food & coffee bar results ! # 49 title: underground bar name : golan levy sex : male age : 29 city : petach-tikva state : israel --- the underground bar concept is based on a singular space, which no built element penetrates it's 'monolithic' cubic volume from beneath. seating/meeting area is comprised of sunken "clusters", where small groups of people can dine, have a drink, lounge or just relax (that is after one takes off his shoes at the entrance). the inner membrane walls are slightly inward curved, since they are made up from a similar basic element rotated incremently throughout the middle and then backwards. those long louvers are from gradient corian shades of blue and each is jointed seamlessly to emphasize the longitude orientation. behind those perforated divider walls there is a back lit solid wall, upon which water are flowing down. to create a calm layed back atmosphere the lighting is dimmed because it is projected through the surface of the corian walls and lamps.the water falling sound is reflecting and echoing through the membrane that works as a speaker spreading it all around, dominant colors are shades of blue and overall design is minimalistic.  ---  back to the competition results index ---  ------- monthly designboom newsletter ------- ------- ? comments and contact us ? -------  |
