designboom and DuPont's international design competition theme: DuPont Corian® for a food & coffee bar results ! -------------------------- top 30 nominations # 980 title: talkie-tables name : gianni tozzi and stuart penny sex : - age : - city : london state : uk --- aset of nested tables for a food & coffee bar. walkie-talkies are repackaged inside each table and their channels left open to allow people to listen and speak via them. the corian surface is perforated to allow the sound to pass through. the Inside of each table is covered with acoustic foam in order to create a small sound proof area. talkie-tables are nested modules. the walkie-talkies are embedded into them. for that reason, if the tables are placed too close to each other, they produce a feedback noise. the tables want to be apart to allow people to talk, listen, eavesdrop. talkie-taables have been successfully prototyped full scale by using flexible mdf and walkie-talkie toys. the prototypes are powered by an external box that became part of the final design.  ---  ---  ---  ---  ---  back to the competition results index ---  ------- monthly designboom newsletter ------- ------- ? comments and contact us ? -------  |
