to help amplify the latest the energizer ‘ecoadvanced’ battery, 5.5 designstudio created a small portable AA lamp nightlight. its layout is the result of a search for minimal work of materials. its functional form is designed to suit a wrist and generates the live circuit to power the bulb which lights up and goes out in response to an intuitively unmisssable gesture. 5.5-designstudio-AAlamp-designboom-02

the AA lamp is made of recycled metal; briquettes that are salvaged and compact shavings which illustrate the manufacturing process of the energizer batteries. the simple metals that take the shape of the lamp were hammered and alternately reheated by a blow torch, making them malleable and deformable. once soldered together, the structures are then emeried and filed to a tenth of a millimeter of the required dimensions. after cold adjustments and various polished steps, the piece then receives the master’s hallmark finishes.

5.5 designstudio decided in four metallic finishes: gold, silver, copper and black silver to reflect the array of the metals needed to make the energizer ‘ecoadvanced’ battery. entirely made by goldsmiths in paris, the AA lamp for energizer has a unique character and value that customers will want to keep for a long time.
