the ‘pleated vases’ from polish designer agnieszka bar are a fresh breath into the life of traditional polish crystal. bar chose glass crystal for its soft and pliable qualities, which can be shaped in a variety of ways. in this case, shaping involved manually grinding each vase notch by notch, to realize the soft, pleated lines that make the vases both charming and timeless.

the vases were conceived as a duo, though they are just as capable of standing by themselves. the two differ in shape, color and type of decoration, but both sparkle in away only produced by glass when in contact with water and reflected light. the larger version is colorless and designed with a broad-edged wedge. its lower flat section, when filled, has a strange optical effect that further individualizes the form. a smaller counter-part is made in a strong accent color, with finely ground joints which cover the upper surface. both vases provide the possibility of accommodating large bouquets and arrangements. ‘pleated vases’ are available exclusively through london-based manufactured culture
