the ‘body building’ exhibit by atelier biagetti – the creative collaboration between alberto biagetti and laura baldassari – has been curated by maria cristina didero. atelier biagetti combined and extracted elements taken from gym apparatus and have translated them into an array of contemporary and refined pieces of furniture. at first glance, these objects are recognizable as regular pieces of gym equipment, but this unusual collection presents itself as a series of re-imagined home furnishings.

crafted using high-quality techniques in materials such as pony skin, leather and beaver fur, atelier biagetti has interpreted a pommel horse as a metallic living room bench; dumb bells support an elegant coffee table; and traditional gymnastic rings can be seen as suspended tubes of light. the exhibit space itself draws influence from a classic gymnasium environment where tape markings have been stuck on the floor to highlight each piece being presented. simultaneously, the collection examines society’s obsession with bodybuilding and exercise, however in this exhibit the designers have managed to portray the furniture in a lighthearted manner without eliminating its sport-related characteristics.
