alien and monkey re-frame ritual of gift opening with sand packaging

the conventions of wrapping and opening a present are overturned by studio alien and monkey. the barcelona-based atelier has re-framed the ritual of receiving and uncovering a gift with ‘sand packaging’ – using the granular substance as their medium to mould boxes in which to enclose and protect small objects that are being given away. the sustainable design aims at re-establishing our notions of discovery, while also offering a sustainable means of bundling something precious by employing a natural resources that is widely abundant.
