the ‘concrete jerrycans’ are a series of three lighting fixtures by alon design studio. the objects engage in the connection between the world of industry and plastics on the one hand, and a singular handmade creation on the other. for the project, the classic container changes its character—transforming from a packaged and mass produced article to a coveted item that enters a living environment totally different from that which was intended in the first place. in the working process, special emphasis was placed on the employment of local industry while preserving the touch of the hand to each of the lamps. the bases that replicate the original form have been shaped from concrete, while gold plated brass pieces extend from the opening to hold a single bulb.
