laselva and mosaics martí bring old school technology and creative freedom together for ‘atlas’, a completely modular, customizable mosaic tile system. the user is able to decide the colors and combination and the tiles are then produced exclusively for them by hand at mosaic martí in barcelona, spain. led by pere and albert martí, the company was started in 1913 by their grandfather. since 1988 the brothers have spent their time restoring presses, retrieving and repairing molds of old modernist designs so that they can once again be installed, while paying homage to the past, with quality and beauty.

‘atlas’ is made as an encaustic tile; the first layer is made of white cement, marble sand and natural pigments, which are poured into a mold with the pattern to form the resulting top surface. the second slab contains cement, while the third, sand. when pressed, the bottom layers absorb the excess liquid from the top. due to their composition, the modules harden in a natural way and the results are suitable for indoor pavements and flooring. the positioning of the modules can be organized at random, or it can be designed to follow a certain path or composition.
