benjamin hubert‘s ‘WW’, which stands for water and wine, is a wine breather-carafe and set of stackable glasses for danish brand menu. the challenge was to create a product with a visually dramatic decanting process to develop the company’s portfolio of wine accessories, which is its core business.

hubert developed over 20 prototypes of the device during the design process to test the flow of liquid and obtain the maximum aeration. the final ‘raining’ process is both aesthetically impressive and beneficial. as alcohol is poured from a bottle, perforations in the stainless steel aerator with an injection-moulded silicon seal allow it to enter the mouth-blown glass container. the surface area is then increased by eight times the amount of a normal pour.

the system helps the aromatics come out of the mixture and changes the flavor profile from tight, astringent, and tart to one more suitable for your tastebuds with enhanced tannins. afterwards, the wine can be easily served from the carafe, making the oxidation technique simple and efficient. the work will launch at maison & objet fall 2014 in paris.
