carwan gallery presents karen chekerdjian’s first solo exhibition in the US

during design miami/ 2015 carwan gallery presents, karen chekerdjian‘s first solo exhibition in the US. the beirut-based artist show contains objects that range from rainbows, to tables, to spaceships, to blocks, and are ingrained in a design process that is driven by random, conscious encounters and aesthetic refutations. this allows the parameters of transformation to be rearranged, continuously influencing how one works and why.

the gallery has commissioned many works to karen in the past four years and has exhibited her design objects in more than ten international art and design fairs, as well as curated exhibitions. carwan gallery has selected the best of the designer’s work to showcase her unique talent.

chekerdjian’s work falls into a category of its own, one that could be called ‘industrial handicrafts’. unanchored from its time thanks to their blend of traditional manufacturing technique and industrial aesthetic, distinctively lebanese and yet also international, these objects are comfortable in almost any kind of space, as much at a traditional home as they would be in a minimalist interior.
