for display at a one night feline-focused benefit in los angeles, 14 different architecture offices were commissioned to each design a cat shelter, resulting in an exhibition of idiosyncratic spectacles for habitation and play. the event, titled ‘giving shelter’ and held on september 10, 2014, was put on by the national organization architects for animals in support of the LA-based fixnation, a non-profit dedicated to humane trap-neuter-return practices for homeless and stray feline communities.

involved studios include: lehrer architects, HOK, perkins and will, abramson teiger architects, d3architecture, DSH // architecture, formation association + edgar arceneaux, NAC architecture, pfeiffer partners architects, RNL, RTKL, space international, standard architecture, and wolcott architecture interiors.

co-founder and executive director of fixnation, karn myers, describes her appreciation for the event:

‘the architectural community in los angeles is outstanding. we are so grateful to the participating design firms who are generously devoting their talent, creativity, and compassion in support of fixnation. because of fixnation’s programs and the dedication of hundreds of volunteers across the city and county, many cats are able to live healthier, happier lives.’
