the ‘challah table’ is a synthesis of ancient and contemporary. yehoshua pieneles created the bread board by literally translating its religious origin with an infusion of 18th century design. biblically, the ‘shulchan’–table–is where bread was kept in temples. rudiments of the word are clear in the design, which resembles a miniature table. cabriole legs were created out of wood cut specifically with grain running at 53° to the origin, enabling the legs to be strong despite its delicate appearance. once cut and shaped, the legs were attached to the 1-1/8” surface using mortise and tenon joinery. the ‘challah table’ is made of 100% american black walnut
