‘hypercar’

at every motor show there is the same scene: instead of working on efficiency and sustainability, automobile concerns outbid themselves with unrealizable concept cars, extras and glossy surfaces. the daily transportation of passengers as the main task of a vehicle, is beginning to take a back seat when it comes to practical car design.

‘hypercar’ is the result of the bachelor thesis by christian zanzotti (studying at the design faculty munich), in which he interviewed many car drivers about their views on the characteristics of ‘good’ cars, and what they feel is missing from today’s automobiles, asking questions regarding issues of: ‘why are car parts incompatible?’, ‘what are really new features of a new model?’, ‘when do I have to buy a new car?’ and ‘why are cars so impersonal?’.

based on the research and statements made by drivers, the ‘hypercar-sculpture’ emerged. developed and designed together with kathrin lach, newly composed car parts and wooden bars are marked with questions, merging the interior and exterior of the car. the sculpture ironically plays with customary trade show aesthetics, simultaneously embodying the main subject of the work.
