conceived by italian company coma studio ‘lace nº1’ is a dimmable ceiling fixture that is made from vintage pieces of murano glass. the unit consists of a supporting structure with transparent elements above, which were never cut or trimmed, but carefully arranged into a cloud formation. the delicate components were laser cut out of 2 mm aluminum sheets and bent by hand, making it very lightweight. the pieces are arranged to conceal all the electrical elements and mounting system components.

‘lace nº1’ is made of salvaged glass parts that once belonged to a ceiling fixture measuring 3 x 3 m, which was designed in the early 1950’s by flavio poli and custom-made by seguso vetri d’arte for the hotel bristol in meran, italy. through the transformation of these recycled materials, the designers seek to help keep a piece of the famous hotel alive.
