bespoke bench_01 by cradle design studio uses misfit tree parts

‘bench_01’ is an experiment in efficiency by design studio cradle. a collaboration between jessye grundlingh, andrew kroetsch, and nicholas koppelaar, the seating piece is made with the first cut of a tree. often referred to as the ‘misfit’, the piece is often discarded. ‘bench_01’, as a system for design, questions what is waste, and what uses the doomed materials have. minimal work was done to alter the wood, and only a few hours are needed to prepare the steel bench structure.
