underpinned by six forces impacting the shape and nature of ‘family life’, dragon rouge has created the ‘the family of the future, how can brands meet needs in 2030’. based on evolving definitions of quality of life and happiness, the groups reveal how brands might remain relevant and respond to upcoming needs and challenges. from growing megacities with space an absolute premium, collective responses to water stress and increasing demand for energy and food, radically different career expectations, different lifestyle values are all forces contributing to these diverse family units.

‘tandem tribe’ has two single parent families sharing one ‘traditional’ family home, each with their own private space, and a communal living and kitchen. the partnership is one of convenience, living a lifestyle that wouldn’t be possible alone. they monitor their energy and an avatar is used to keep things fair by managing the different consumption levels. the home is part of a micro-community with communal facilities like DIY tools and electric cars.

‘the ruralites’

a hyper-connected family living in a rural community with a renovated farmhouse that is functional, comfortable and efficient. ‘the ruralites’ are close to self-sufficiency in food production, and make full use of all available resources, which helps keep costs low. a 3D printer reduces costs, producing replacement parts for appliances, while the environment that surrounds the home fosters imagination in the children.

‘nomadic movers’

nomadic professionals living in convenient, high-service, low-ownership homes. traveling around the world according to where they’re working, enjoying a level of freedom and flexibility. experiencing the world through work, taking time off to explore different continents. the ‘nomadic movers’ choose bikes and walking over public transport wherever possible. the city is a playground where there’s always a reason to be out and about.

‘mobile and free: we live in a fluid society, with our sense of identity less dependent on our career, place of residence or background. a significant section of the population is now living nomadically, and as a result, have less ‘stuff’ and clutter. hyper convenient service models have replaced the buying of many products, plugging the gap between access and ownership.’ says dragon rouge.
