for design miami 2010, cappellini and walt disney signature present the ‘tron armchair’ designed by dror benshetrit (studio dror).

the range of armchairs draw on the soon-to-be-released walt disney pictures film ‘torn: legacy’, a 3D high-tech adventure set in a digital world. each of the pieces will be individually hand-finished by dror, who pays homage to the digital landscape of the outlands terrain depicted in the movie.

the new york-based designer’s mission on this project was to articulate the complex meaning of objects in the simplest of ways; their uses becoming a part of their narratives, expressed in transformations that are both metaphorical and literal. raw data forms a jag and angular landscape for the chair, which is comprised of intersecting layers and textures of ‘digital’ rock. the armchairs will constructed from composite materials that consist of impregnated fiberglass with polyester resin, processed with manual layering.
