elephant dung shoes by INSA ‘anything goes when it comes to (s)hoes’

with the recent opening of the retrospective exhibition on caribbean artist chris ofili at tate britain, charlie dark presents bring the noise, an event that has invited a collective of young british artists to create their own work in response to the art of ofili. amongst many of those invited was UK artist and designer insa who created ten-inch heels made from elephant dung entitled ‘anything goes when it comes to (s)hoes’. drawing from the signature style of ofili who often integrated elephant dung into his work, insa was not only interested in experimenting and integrating this material into his work but also was concerned with teaching himself how to work with a medium that at first may seem inappropriate. as part of bring the noise event, the design of insa was showcased at tate britain on march 14.

  • Hideous. Elephant dung? “Oh, I’m so different, look at me…” Grow up and actually design something.

    Matt W says:
  • this is so inappropriate!! absolutely hideous!

    Noor K says:
  • yeah right… the art of dung….!!!!!!

    liaqat says:
  • this is somehow sexy

    elle says:
  • This would work as a concept if he’d somehow made the dung look beautiful… but he hasn’t.

The shoe design is absolutely hideous, even without the dung attached.

    Pedro says:
  • it would reek if the sealing ever broke!
“What is that smell!? Did you step on dog poo?”
“Oh, no. I constantly step on Elephant poo.”

    bella says:
  • At first I though it read “elephant drug”. That name is still really fitting I think.

    bitsbite says:
  • how long before lady gaga wears these???

    Raquel says:
  • @bella:
elephant poo doesnt smell at all. especially if its dry.

‘anything goes when it comes to (s)hoes’
    does that imply
‘anything goes when it comes to hoes’?

    darwin says:
  • Oh shit! Get over the sensationalism and concentrate on design.

    Sparky says:
  • That shoe looks like sh*t – oh, wait.
