pennsylvania-based company emeco is recognized for its chair designs that incorporate post-industrial and consumer waste materials in their fabrication. founded in 1944, their lightweight, non-corrosive, fire resistant and torpedo proof chairs were made originally for the US navy. the utilization of sustainable and innovative techniques allow the pieces to last at least a hundred and fifty years. on the occasion of 2016 salone del mobile, emeco has launched the ‘run collection’ by sam hecht and kim colin of industrial facility.

the furniture collection brings people together; each piece influenced by the collective congenial atmosphere around public furniture like canteen tables, park benches and library shelves.

‘with run, sam hecht and kim colin have designed a collection of “pure utility.” whether long or short, high or low, inside or outside, run is a system that provides an architect or designer an adaptable tool that works for any application.’ – gregg buchbinder, CEO, emeco

a distinctive element of the pieces is their versatility. either placed indoors or out, their lengths measure between 2400mm and 830mm, in sitting or standing heights. the collection has a restrained materials palette: structural elements are made of extruded, non-corroding recycled aluminium in either natural or powder coated black. plank surfaces are available in anodized aluminum, or three types of harvested wood.

run effortlessly finds balance in both indoor and outdoor landscapes suited for meeting, eating, learning, sharing and working. run is shaped to acknowledge the benefits of being around others, so tables are welcoming and useful, made to work purposefully well with many of emeco’s existing chairs and mstools, including the original navy chair.’sam hecht, industrial facility
