the winners of the eurobike award 2012 have been announced. organized by iF design, 439 entries from 28 countries were submitted into the competition under nine different categories: mountain bikes, cross bikes, racing bikes, urban bikes, special-purpose bikes, e-bikes/pedelecs, cothes, parts/components and accessories.

from august 29th to september 1st an exhibition of all the award-winning products are on display at the eurobike tradeshow in foyer west at the friedrichshafen exhibition grounds, germany. the eurobike award was developed to offer a platform in which people could present their ideas for the bicycle industry.

‘KTM eshopper – carrier bike with bosch motor’ designed and manufactured by KTM fahrrad GmbH mattighofen, austria was one of this year’s eight gold award winners. its use is envisioned to make shopping trips more comfortable and convenient for individuals, having the capacity to carry loads of up to 150 kg. a main feature of the bicycle is its reinforced frame which has an extra-low ‘step through’ which allows for easy mounting. the motor of this electric bike is made by bosch, while other components include eight hub gears with a hydraulic disk brake that guarantees optimal braking efficiency.

supersix EVO black – eurobike award 2012 gold winner

the ‘supersix EVO’ road racing bike brings together key performance factors: aerodynamics, compliance, handing, stiffness, strength and weight. another one of the gold winners, the aluminum frame two-wheeler is designed and manufactured by cycling sports group europe and weighs in at only 700 grams, offering one of the lightest production frames on the market. it also has the best stiffness-to-weight recorded (142.3 Nm/deg/kg), outperforming most aluminium bodies in both destructive and fatigue testing.

belter

‘belter’ is a children’s bicycle designed and manufactured by andy loveland, early rider ltd. from the UK. the belt driven velo removes the need for strength and does not depend on parents to maintain its performance. custom nylon sprockets and a gates carbon belt reduce the weight of the module and eliminate chain stretch, grease and dirt. it features a front freewheel which allows for smaller, lighter, anatomically correct cogs. narrow gauge aluminium tubing, aluminium rims, carbon seatpost and bespoke saddle also contribute to the design’s minimized weight. high cartridge bearings, 1.5" high thread count tires and narrow Q factor cranks ensure rolling resistance is also kept at a low.

racktime I-valo

tubus carrier systems’ ‘I-valo’ luggage carrier is a rack which displays an integrated rearlight bar, enhancing luminosity and safer night riding. a collaboration between tubus and the lighting experts of herrmans in finland, ‘I-valo’ can easily be built into the front light or battery box of e-bikes.
