‘flight lamp’ by calen knauf

developed by vancouver-based designer calen knauf of knauf & brown, ‘flight lamp’ is a substantial desk lamp with fine details and materials, that comes shipped flat in an 11″x17″ envelope. the shade is laser cut from spruce aircraft plywood, the dowels are birch hardwood, and the legs are either solid polished brass or copper.

the materials and finish have been meticulously chosen to match their possible patinas. when the brass oxidizes, it darkens and will compliment its all black counterparts. as for the copper legs, they will turn a minty green, correlating to the mint stained shade. like most objects that are meant to transcend generations, components of the ‘flight lamp’ can be removed easily and cared for. the legs are easily removable for polishing if one wants to retain the mirrored metal finishes.

the ‘flight lamp’ is now seeking funding on kickstarter.
