for the third year in a row, swedish design trio form us with love (FUWL – jonas pettersson, john löfgren and petrus palmér) present an exhibition under the title ‘form us with friends’ as part of stockholm design week. teamed up with the swedish museum of architecture the studio showcases five new lighting and furniture objects which the studio collaborated on with five different ‘friends’ (manufacturers): ‘plaid dividers’ for abstracta (sweden), ‘plug lamp’ for ateljé lyktan (sweden), ‘form’ pendants for design house stockholm (sweden), ‘bento’ chair and table for one nordic furniture company (finland), and ‘slab vases’ for cosentino silestone (spain).

the exhibition is on show on the scenic island of skeppsholmen in central stockholm, from february 6th-10th, 2012.

made from bent birch plywood, the ‘bento’ chair and table aims to fill the gap between high-design and flatpack furniture. the idea behind the seating object is derived from that of a child’s lego set. each of the chair’s four components: seat, backrest, and two legs easily, come together without the need for any tools or fasteners.

‘form’ collection consists of three glass pendant lamps blown into simple, geometric shapes: a circle, a rectangle and a triangle that interplay with one another. they have been designed to be grouped as installations.

one of the key changes to the office is that they are moving towards more open-plan and temporary spaces, which often call for new room dividers that are both attractive and sound absorbant. as the name suggests, ‘plaid’ is a blanket-type sound absorber – so called ‘noise curtains’ that can be suspended, draped or mounted, depending on the changing needs of an office and its workers. the one pressed module is made from industrial felt and bonded with PET foam. ‘plaid’ can be folded over a metal bracket between desks, or it can be suspended on wires from the ceiling. it could also create an enclosed structure, like a small house.

‘the plug lamp is a simple idea’, says john löfgren from form us with love. ‘we wanted to create a lamp with the added bonus of an electrical socket. it can be used to recharge the batteries of various electronic devices, or you wish to plug a few lamps and can easily connect them to each other. the plug lamp has a bulbous shape and has a base in die-cast and powder-coated aluminium. the plug socket is displayed centrally, making it almost a decorative detail. the light itself is concealed by a frosted glass shade and the lamp is dimmable.’

rings of silestone – an enhanced quartz made by blending gravel with coloring and binding agents – are slipped over a metal bracket measuring around 40cm high to produce ‘slab vases’, a series of watertight vessels. the rings vary in size and cut, so their shape changes with each assembly.
