swedish design studio front was invited by ballantine’s whisky to create a drinking ritual for their premium 12 year blend. the collection of elaborate pieces translates the customary practice of sipping fine whisky into a hand-crafted beverage set that balances on top of each other in a seemingly magical composition. after visiting ballantine’s distillery in scotland, and learning the story about the intricate whisky making procedure, front implemented the materials found in the traditional distillery process. using oak like the whisky casks for the coasters, and referencing the aged patina of the distillation pans for the copper ice container, the five pieces evoke the brand’s history in the form of an experiential spoon, water jug, coaster, drinking glass and ice cooler.

the copper ice cooler is fitted with a groove at its base, which attaches to the lip of the drinking glass; the transparent water jug has a small metallic clip on its bottom corner, connecting to the mouth of the semi-assembled set. at the crown of the construction, an apparently precariously balanced spoon is cleverly secured to the rim of the glass beaker by a groove from the underside of its handle.
