louis vuitton celebrates their famous monogram with the reveal of the icon and the iconoclasts project: six renowned creatives — christian louboutin, cindy sherman, frank gehry, karl lagerfeld, marc newson and rei kawakubo — have each been given artistic freedom to create a bag or luggage using their own monogram, keeping in mind the french luxury house’s spirit of collaboration and innovation.

when we talked with nicolas ghesquière about the extraordinary talents we would like to approach we simply went to those who are among the best in their fields’, says delphine arnault, executive vice president of louis vuitton, ‘I thought it was so interesting – and fun! – to have all of these different points of view on the monogram… this is a group of geniuses.’ the limited edition pieces materialized by the diverse group of artists, architects and designers will be available in select stores worldwide from mid-october 2014.

gehry’s closeness to the french luxury brand continues with the monogram project, following his work on the ‘fondation louis vuitton‘, on which construction enters its final stages. when complete, the cultural complex will house a range of contemporary art works, accommodating a permanent collection alongside temporary and traveling exhibitions. you can read more about the building in designboom’s coverage, here.
