giulio iacchetti lays out a labyrinth of flooring tiles for ceramiche refin

giulio iacchetti lays out his first ever flooring tile collection in the form of ‘labyrinth’, a composition of simple and peculiar geometrical insights realized in collaboration with designtalestudio — a creative laboratory that focuses on technical and aesthetic research revolving around state-of-the-art porcelain ware that is powered by ceramiche refin.

the network of complex lines that make up ‘labyrinth’, challenge the traditional square tile, and completely overthrow the existing standardized solutions of versatile module-based components available on the market. iacchetti’s vision delivers bold compositions and patterns with an endless number of possible arrangements, for both private and commercial interior applications.

‘labyrinth’ is divided into two families: ‘angle’ and ‘mirror’ — both designed in a way that permit free use of the tile modules, in order that individuals can build their own unique ‘labyrinth’ within their personal space. the ‘angle’ motif draws on the work of josef and anni albers, important members of the bauhaus, and features three colour lines: navy, pearl and slate, that each express a powerful, multi-layered graphic concept; while the ‘mirror’ family is available in three different color versions: ash, sand and silver, characterized by rich, deep textile-influenced textures.

collectively, the elements of ‘labyrinth’ leave behind a rigorous, serialized nature that undermines mainstream clichés and carries us away into a world of emotionally powerful trompe-l’oeil, and modular escher-like patterns, an artist that giulio iacchetti is particularly fond of. the surfaces of ‘labyrinth’ can be altered by slight laying changes; and the eye can get lost along the intricate zigzag details and effects, or mirror-like symmetry, offering, as giulio iacchetti states, ‘a sense of infinite and unlimited graphic development…‘.
