giulio iacchetti sweeps into maison et objet with the pula broom

giulio iacchetti is known for creating products that are a little disobedient, off course from the norm and a bit humorous. he contrasts this reputation with his internoitaliano project, which seeks to develop a widespread production network in collaboration with over 20 craftsmen from across italy — from sicily to friuli; to conceive and produce designs made using age old techniques, that are influenced by the italian way of life.

among these objects is ‘pula’ — a broom that has been made entirely from natural materials. it features a beech wood forked handle and block, bringing to mind traditional agricultural tools. the locking pins which connect these components are made of wood, as is the adjusting ring that adds a decorative touch, while also providing stability. the brush is a composition of broomcorn and coconut fibre, available in two versions for indoor and outdoor use. these are distinguished by the use of more or less soft bristles.

the ‘pula’ broom by giulio iaccheti made its debut at maison et objet 2015 in paris.

the ‘pula’ broom has been brought to life by gottardo3, a third-generation company that specializes in bristling, and the production of brushes and brooms using natural materials. the padova-based company was founded in 1919 when alessandro gottardo came back from the war and had to learn how to make brushes for the working animals he took care of. when he left his work in the fields, he started his own small production, which grew into a business. today, gottardo3 is one of italy’s first companies to boast a full catalogue of house and industrial cleaning products.
