stockholm design week: launched in 2012, hem design is a stockholm-based design studio that collaborates with designers around the world to create products that aim to fit perfectly into the way people live today. designed, developed and manufactured in europe, all of their pieces are sold online and deliver the highest quality craftsmanship. for stockholm design week hem has opened a new showroom and has launched four products by a new generation of designers including staffan holm, julien renault and mark braun.

designed by staffan holm and presented at stockholm design week, the ‘udon chair’ contains a meticulous design that took two years to make, including hundreds of minor adjustments. the solid wood beech chair references both japanese and scandinavian woodworking techniques. available in natural beech, the chair also comes in strong hues like stained blue, brown, black and green. made of three pieces, its soft curves result in a contemporary piece with a classic air.

german designer mark braun’s first piece for hem design is a table mortar. made from five different european marbles including the rosso francia and nero marquina. the ‘table mortar’ transcends categories, combining the traditional grinder with the cooking mortar for a decorative centerpiece embellishing the table setting.
