the ‘wrap’ is a simple, lightweight sofa by milan-based hiroomi tahara for yamakawa rattan. the design features a wrapped backrest that despite its spare quality, creates a rich volume with profound shadows. contrasting densities of the thick cushion and thin back ties the elements together into a singular form.

materials, technique, and craftsmanship are the base of the concept, with respect and attention paid to cultural richness and tradition. the backrest is made of rattan, a highly ecological material found only in dense rainforest. the substance grows rapidly, using the trees as a grip to reach for the sunlight above. tahara believes that life should be simple and free but never loose its richness, and the ‘wrap’ sofa is just that: simple, free, and rich. the couch will be on display at milan design week 2015
