hulger introduces plumen 002 light bulb on kickstarter
following the widespread success of the plumen 001 — the unique coil of compact fluorescent lights, which designboom has previously featured here — hulger has revealed the plumen 002, an energy efficient alternative to the 30W filament bulb that doesn’t compromise any light quality. its sculptural and clearly defined form likens itself to an infinite loop, as the blown glass silhouette sensually and fluidly curves downwards, and upwards again, leaving a narrow gap of negative space between the two sources of illumination. the glow that the plumen 002 emits alludes to the warm and patterned light of incandescent style bulbs, yet hulger’s design uses just 25% of the energy, and maintains a lifespan of 8 years of normal usage. the copper, red, white, blue and black drop cap pendants that have been designed to fit around the bulb work beautifully in series — either neatly lined in a row or loosely hung in an organic bouquet — and their low brightness means their intimate, cozy light requires no shade. the new iteration in the series is currently seeking funding on kickstarter, which you can support, here.
