hyun-gi kim’s ‘red series’ furniture is born out of his own visual experiences of blood. this vital liquid comes in may ways to humans, both physically and psychologically. the thought of it can either provoke fear, hate and terror, or just remind us that it pumps through our veins to keep us alive. hence, the designer introduces the vitality of blood through an eerie furniture design that embeds the concepts of life and death.

with that concept in mind, the user can experience the ‘birth of life’ by sitting on the chair, where hundred of hoses connect to create a stable body. as this movement is executed, the liquid rushes away from the point of pressure and expands lateral sections. this phenomenon reflects the beating heart and contracting muscles — giving the audience the visual and auditory experiences. in other words, blood circulation is constantly felt when sitting down – just like in a living being. rest assured, the liquid is not real blood but rather a mix of red acrylic and other solutions that offer the best imitation. all plastic bags are stacked and kept put with a stainless steel support frame.
