polish designer iga węglińska walks along the thin line separating fashion and industrial design. for her, pieces of clothing are sculptures, works of art exhibited by the wearer. węglińska’s latest project, a line of conceptual footwear, doesn’t stray from this central philosophy. they are focused on form and materials, but also emotion and deconstructionist design philosophy; making a bold, but practical, statement.

the project began with a 3D scan of a traditional shoe last,  which was then used as the base for CNC milling and 3D printing. from there, węglińska branched out, collaborating with a chemist to create a custom elastic polymer to fit the various designs’ needs. in addition, two of the pairs were constructed using a composite of concrete and PLA plastic. seemingly defying the laws of gravity, each pair represents a distinct move from convention and the tired aesthetics of the past
