as part of the 'showtime' collection, valencia-based designer jaime hayon has conceived of a limited edition of 40 vases to commemorate the 40th birthday of barcelona design. the hand painted pieces are one-of-a-kind items for the spanish furniture company who has a long tradition of working with artists such as juan gris and salvador dali. the edition is identified with a numbering system of black strokes against the white finished surface. faces are drawn on the top lids of the objects with protruding elements like ears to create a figurine shape. see how hayon develops his method for the anniversary below.
