jens praet further develops his ‘shredded’ collection with a fourth edition. previously using issues of ‘art in america’, ‘detail’, ‘ELLE decor’, ‘fast company’ and ‘ROBB report’ to construct its furniture designs – using splintered paper from the pages of the magazines – ‘shredded series 4’ is made exclusively from copies of ‘art+auction’ to form a low table, and two large mirrors.

the belgian designer’s process sees him finely strip-cutting the glossy pages, in which he takes the resulting swarf-like paper bits and mixes them with resin, pressing the compound into moulds to form each piece. once set, the furniture is polished and offers the firmness of wood with the expression of a unique texture.

in addition, praet introduces a low table to his ‘dressed’ series, made from discarded fabric that has been dipped in hot wax, draped and hand-shaped over a brushed aluminium understructure, and cast in bronze to give it a rigidity. the textile is subsequently oxidized in a blue patina which varies in color over time.jens praet shredded furniture designboom
