pinggu sales office adorned with ethereal patterns in beijing

located just outside of beijing, the pinggu sales office designed by ji pan and commissioned by yintai group is a 100 sqm commercial space where the historical spirit and culture of the city continue to grow. it is also the witness of a changing environment, one that focuses on the spiritual core of future lifestyles and eliminates the distance between people and ideal living.

wanting to portray the quality of a ‘home’, ji pan expresses the image of a circle through a seven-meter-high installation made of nearly a thousand LED lamps. the huge lighting array is suspended from the top and occupies almost 2/3 of the total story height. its slender shape and floating quality brings a surreal lightness and haziness to the room. with a 3D precise positioning technology, people are able to experience various visual effects and get a harmonious view of the whole. the narrative about this ‘suspended universe’ expands gradually, converges, and stops — finally focusing one’s perception and expectation of a ‘future home’ on the sand table right under the light array.

the circular lighting feature gives an impression of surreal lightness

to avoid an excess of bright colors, the designer used simple materials to build up the base of the office space: logs for façades, white and gray marble blocks for flooring. each of the stones have their own natural color and texture (warm/cold, rough/smooth) since they are all products of time. furthermore, the wood moulding varies between vertical and horizontal orientations to create a linear organization as well as to distinguish different functional areas. with bright lights dispersing from the central LED array, the wooden surface forms mixed shadows filled with rhythm, depth and interlacement.
