karl lagerfeld’s influence on the fashion world is undeniable. the creative director of chanel is known for his cutting edge couture and equally radical runway shows — the french fashion house’s autumn/winter 2014 ready-to-wear show took the shape of a chic supermarket. so nothing is more fitting than seeing the german-born fashion designer being glamorized in the form of a limited edition barbie.

mattel has announced that later this year it will be releasing a doll that represents everything that defines creative director of chanel – from the high-collared crisp white shirt complete with a necktie, black jeans and tailored jacket, sunglasses, right down to the most important details – his signature fingerless gloves.

the global vice president of barbie product design, kim culmone stated: ‘it’s not everyday that barbie dresses like the world’s most famous designer.’ to date the only glimpse we have of lagerfeld barbie is a concept sketch drafted by robert best, a regular designer for the fashion doll.
