following the first and second installations of kotaro horiuchi‘s theme of merging forms within an architectural setting, the japanese designer has constructed his third version aptly named ‘fusionner 3.0: air house’. embedded into the gallery of aichi shukutoku university, the composition presents visitors with thin and pure white layers of paper are floating fluidly in the space. procession begins at the fonrt of the structure, where there is an entrance shaped like a gable roof. once inside, the repetition of solid and void is intended to make people feel as if their bodies are smaller. you can slowly notice the silhouette of a house, which seems to change its size continuously due to the flexible qualities of the material. it appears as though the massing of the typical home seen in children’s drawings has pierced through each sheet, leaving its ghost behind. as you come closer to the back, the dimensions of the extrusion decrease until they finally end as a small window. the result is a manipulation of the spatial experience unseen within the walls of an art exhibition as air spreads into shadowy zones where building models can be discovered. observers are invited to gather, discuss, enjoy the moment, and even lie down below the ethereal effect. the only hint of activities taking place outside the ‘air house’ are communicated through its fenestration and cracks.
