UNdo, UNcomplicate, UNdesign: 2014 LELO UNdesign award
for more than ten years, LELO – global leader in luxury personal massagers – has been committed to providing pleasure through products that balance technology and intimacy. however, so many tools and gadgets around us claim to encourage togetherness – whether it be social media, smart phones or any number of apps – when in reality, they actually have the opposite effect. while we may be better connected than ever before, these platforms actually require less physical contact to do so, thus ironically keeping us further apart. so, as the digital age is trying to make it more convenient for us to keep updated with the lives of those around us, it is in fact raising as many barriers as it has possibilities.
a simple truth is that more than a third of people aged under 35 check their social media immediately after sex. for LELO, a ‘screen seems a poor substitute for a cuddle‘. miroslav slavic, LELO CEO explains, ‘technology is developed to empower and unify us. but it’s doing just the opposite. it’s time to get closer again.’ to reinforce its commitment to creativity and wanting to stimulate and revitalize our notions of closeness and physical intimacy, the swedish brand is hosting the LELO UNdesign award 2014, inviting designers to develop ideas and objects that encourage real interaction and human harmony. LELO is seeking submissions that respond to three proposed categories: fashion & accessories; technology, products & spaces; and graphic illustration & planning. registration is free, and the deadline to enter is august 1, 2014.
winning entires will be selected by an international jury based on innovation, originality, functionality and most importantly, its ability to bring people closer together. three prizes will be awarded – one for each category – with winners receive $1000 USD cash, $300USD worth of LELO products and international media exposure. for more information and participate, visit the LELO UNdesign award 2014 website.
