the sustainable ‘corza lounge chair’ by south korean studio metafaux design is an eco-friendly piece with easily replaceable components. the furniture is made from plywood and corks to not only reduce its ecological foot print but also provide a low-cost, affordable object. the basic structural elements are manufactured by CNC cutting on birch plywood, and joined by 15mm thick flat cork panels, which can be changed when worn out or weathered from long term use. the trimmed parts are bent by hand without compromising the mould process, requiring less energy consumption than conventional techniques. the ‘corza lounge chair’ is relatively light-weight, weighing just 7.6kg, which also reduces its co2 emissions when transporting. the product was shown with a special edition model at the seoul design festival in 2013.
