hong kong-based monica tsang designs has created ‘the victory’ sculpture in celebration of the chinese year of the horse. the project was based on the image of a steed and exploring ideas of death and creation. the horse is cast in a rearing position with its front legs raised in an effort to express that there are different interpretations as to what ‘victory’ means for each individual. small skulls lie at the base, aiming to introduce amusement in the midst of solemnness and contempt, curiosity and fear, sublimity and chaos.

‘each and every horse has its own unique temper. with careful observation, you will notice that some are gallant, some are drowsy, some are shy, and some have been forced to quit… they each have different backgrounds, different trainers and have been through different training. they are actually much like us, with varying preferences, personalities and experiences.’ says designer monica tsang.
