new york-based morpholio project has introduced ‘board’, their second generation mobile-first app that intervenes in the design process at the moment between research and creation for a new collaboration format. developed specifically for the iPad and iPhone with collaborators such as herman miller, it provides a tool that allows users to transform an endless stream of images through an intuitive piece of software. ‘call them what you want: design, presentation or mood boards have always been an essential tool for creatives,’ says ciara seymour, co-creator of the morpholio project. ‘we are broadening their impact and potential with a brand new platform that combines intuitive and accessible layout features with a library of over 1000 curated design products.’

the board app brings together a handful of innovative features, such as ‘gallery’, ‘tag it’, ‘conference table’, ‘the portal’, ‘entourage’, ‘illustrate’ and ‘broadcast’, each allowing users to work in a fast and organized way that frees up creative thinking. the curated ‘gallery’ is just one aspect of morpholio’s approach that connects design professionals or enthusiasts to the products that they desire. for instance, the feature presents a selection of furniture, fixtures, accessories and materials curated by design experts with links to official sites for reference. choose a classic chair, and then visit the website to clip color or fabric options.

the app also combines a highly refined suite of tools with access to the cloud, where images and inspiration abound, and your creations can be easily shared.  ‘if pinterest is like your iTunes library, then board is where you make your playlist,’ says co-creator anna kenoff. other key elements include ‘tag it’, a board that compiles an ‘item list’ of all objects clipped from the gallery or web and email it directly to your inbox. ‘conference table’ on the other hand, re-imagines client and team presentations as interactive work sessions, and ‘illustrate’ lets you draw instantly over any image, sketch or mark up your selections. the app takes an established professional design tool and opens it up to a mass audience; essentially if you design, collage, draw, pin, or blog — you will want to ‘board’.

the ‘portal’ is an amplified web clipper that allows you to pull imagery from the web or directly from pinterest
