watanabe kyoguten makes high-spec, hand-applied finished globes at their educational
products firm in soka, saitama prefecture outside of tokyo. taking full advantage of
watanabe’s kyoguten’s level of craftsmanship, nendo wanted to create a new black and white globe which
was more graphically emotional, rather than just simply an object which presents information.
by reducing the amount of information shown and rendering the oceans and bodies of water
in white and landmasses in black, the corona globe highlights the reliefs of islands and coastlines.
the globe’s stand should complement the globe itself, so nendo created a gentle curve that recedes
rather than stands out, powder-coating the steel for a clean finish that blends with the globe’s
lustrous surface.

the corona globe comes in three sizes: a standard 26 cm diameter version, a floor model that stands
at 100 cm tall, and a smaller version with a 15 cm diameter.
