luca patkós of the hungarian university of fine arts has created ‘neonon’ an identity project for an organization of the same name, dedicated to collecting neon signs from budapest in the 1970s. the once iconic signs fell out of favor as cheaper solutions became available in the 90s and it became apparent that without intervention, examples from this electric period in the city’s history would cease to exist. patkós developed pictograms and other graphics for a range of items to promote the preservation project and vectorized past signs to create a ‘new’ sign which was authentic to the past. the goal of the project is to found a museum dedicated to curating and documenting the history of signage in budapest.
