in london’s battersea park, pump house gallery has unveiled a temporary pavilion designed by NEON made from colorful, flexible duct pipes. hosting screenings, workshops and performances, the sculptural structure has been crafted using blue and yellow pipes, which are contorted into a series of undulating arches. alternating in color, the tubes create a hypnotic ‘op-art’ effect which draws visitors inside the pavilion. the material usage pays homage to the pipes that used to flow from the pump house to battersea park.

on display as part the wandsworth arts fringe, ‘pump house pavilion’ been conceived by NEON and elliott wood structural engineers in close collaboration with young students from chestnut grove academy. commissioned by london’s pump house gallery, the architectural form is created by manipulated duct pipes, which form a series of repeated arches that reference the classic brick arch at the front entrance of the gallery. once inside, visitors find seating and tables built from pipe storage spools, making a creative use out of everyday construction materials.
